In Senegal, the opposition to the government wants to vote on a motion of censure

Following the rejection by Senegalese MPs of the new authorities’ bill on the abolition of two institutions deemed to be budget-consuming, the parliamentary opposition has moved up a gear and tabled a motion of censure in an attempt to bring down the government.

The idea was launched by a member of parliament from the APR, the party of the former president of Senegal, Macky Sall. Abdou Mbow had announced on Monday that he wanted to file this motion of censure for ” bring down the government ».

Article 86 of the Constitution gives MPs the possibility to force the government to resign. If at least 17 of the 165 parliamentarians sign a motion of censure and submit it to the assembly, a plenary session must be convened 48 hours later, and if the motion is adopted by a simple majority, the government falls.
