Shogun, the series on medieval Japan favorite for the Emmy Awards

The fresco on feudal Japan, Shogunlooks set to make Emmy history this Sunday by becoming the first non-English-language soap opera to win best drama series. The series leads the way with 25 nominations for the television equivalent of the Oscars.

This ten-episode series, released online last February by the Disney+ platform, is a new adaptation of a successful novel by James Clavell set in the Japan 17th century feudal.

The hero of Shogun is English, but it is indeed 16th century Japan.e century, the real subject of the series, at a time when this empire was very closed to the rest of the world.

Through the eyes of the hero, the viewer discovers a confusing and fascinating universe, and delves into complex power struggles: in Osaka, the heir to the throne is too young and four regents are worried about the maneuvers of a powerful warlord, Yoshii Toragana. The English sailor John Blackthorne will become a pawn in the struggle between the two camps.

Mixing grand spectacle and intimate scenes, court intrigues, romance and spectacular sequences of combat between samurai, the series Shogun reveals a key moment in Japanese history.
