Two Congolese athletes missing, a long history of defections

According to information from Le Parisien published on Monday, an investigation has been opened in France into the worrying disappearance of two athletes from the Congolese Paralympic delegation. After participating in the events, they have not been heard from again. However, the Games have long been an opportunity for athletes to flee their country.

As revealed on Monday, September 9, by the newspaper Le Parisien, the prosecutor of Bobigny, in Seine-Saint-Denis, has opened an investigation into a worrying disappearance while the two athletes from the Congo-Brazzaville Paralympic delegation are missing. The brigade for the repression of crimes against the person has also been notified.

According to the daily, the sole representatives of the Republic of Congo, as well as Emmanuel Grace Mouambako’s guide, Sharon Victor Loussanga, have not given any sign of life since Thursday, September 5.

Even before the start of the competition, the French police had already looked into the case of Rwandan sitting volleyball player Claudine Bazubagira.
