Caroline Darian recounts her mother’s chemical submission

Drugged without her knowledge by her husband for years, Gisèle Pelicot, 71, was raped by more than 70 men recruited by her husband. During an extraordinary trial that began this Monday, September 2, she faces 51 men who allegedly abused her. The trial is being held in Mazan, the Vaucluse town where the events allegedly took place.

Several months ago, Caroline Darian, her daughter, spoke on Yahoo to denounce the unbearable reality she had discovered but also to raise awareness of chemical submission, a scourge that is too little known and yet very real. A collateral victim of this sordid affair, she had notably recounted how her mother had learned of the facts after 50 years of marriage. In the snap of a finger, her world had collapsed. It was November 2, 2020. “She was a million miles from imagining who my father really was, her husband with whom she had three children, a happy married life with, of course, ups and downs.”

As she had explained, his modus operandi was well-oiled. Without her suspecting anything, he administered to her, through different means, a mixture of sleeping pills and anxiolytics, an explosive cocktail whose habituation phenomenon was significant. A situation that had pushed him to increase the doses gradually. “When she woke up after being drugged and raped by these individuals, she was not in her normal state.”a state that she initially equated with drunkenness.“My brothers and I had my mother on the phone several times in a daze. We were very worried, we even thought she was starting to develop Alzheimer’s disease.”

And although she has no proof of what she claims, Caroline, author of the book “Et j’ai arrêt de t’appelle papa” (ed. JC Lattès), remains convinced that she too was “chemically subjected”. Indeed, among the 20,000 videos and photos found in her father’s computer equipment, investigators came across photographs of her at different times when she was unconscious. “There is no photographic evidence of touching, sexual assault or even rape. In my case, it’s a big question mark and it’s hard to live with,” she had confessed, returning to the way she currently perceives her father.

“For me, he no longer exists. I don’t know why he undertook what he did. What we are sure of is that there was no financial compensation. It was really for his personal pleasure,” she recalled while explaining that she now felt pity for this individual and was impatiently awaiting the trial so that he could answer for his actions before the courts.
