The Paralympic Games “explained” by children

Many French schools are taking advantage of the Paris Paralympic Games to raise awareness among their students about disability and its relationship to sport. And what could be better than taking them to the competition sites to immerse themselves in it, in order to combine business with pleasure. It is in this spirit that the town of Jonage, near Lyon, organized a trip to the Stade de France on Friday, September 6 for its CM1 and CM2 students. Report.

They were wisely excited and had sparkling eyes, so happy to be there, in this “magical” place that had become the theater of their dreams for a few hours. Students joyfully torn from the night to wake up in the light of a day they had long since checked off. On this Friday, September 6, 115 children aged 8 to 10, from Jonage (east of Lyon), were brought together by the joy of the Games at the Stade de France.

These Games, this crazy day, this escapade to Paris, the schoolchildren of Jonage have been waiting for them for three years. “It is a big organization that has mobilized the entire city for the last three years, and brought its population together around the Paris 2024 Games”, explains Virginie Antoninos, deputy for Sport and sports education for the Rhone community, a town of around 6,000 inhabitants located about twenty kilometers east of Lyon.

An opening and closing ceremony, like at the Games

As for Lola, she “discovers how disabled people practice their sports; when I see them running and jumping, I tell myself that it must be more difficult than the Olympics.”
