The Earth rotates on its axis in one day and completes a revolution around the sun in one year. Considering these movements, it is natural to wonder about the arrangement of the stars, particularly between the northern and southern hemispheres. Contrary to what some observations, particularly time-lapse shots, may suggest, it is not the celestial vault that moves, but rather the Earth that rotates on its axis. This phenomenon also explains the sunrise in the east and its setting in the west. On a human scale, this celestial movement remains one of the most perceptible, over the course of a day.

For the same location, the starry sky is constantly changing. Some stars may be visible for a limited period, while other celestial bodies remain present throughout the year. For example, this is the case of the Moon. Observable in the northern or southern hemisphere, our planet’s satellite is easily spotted in the night sky. Its appearance varies according to its different phases. However, we always observe the same face. On the other hand, its orientation seems reversed depending on whether the observer is in France, north of the equator, or in New Zealand, to the south.
