Storm Boris has started to hit the continent. At least four people have died in Romania due to flooding caused by heavy rains affecting central and eastern Europe, authorities announced on Saturday, September 14.

“Four people were found dead” in the Galati region (southeast) “following search operations”, emergency services said in a statement.

“Due to heavy rainfall, floods occurred” and in total across the country, “19 localities and dozens of people were rescued,” they added.

Prime Minister expected on site

A video from the rescue services shows dozens of houses under water in a village on the Danube. Romanian Prime Minister Marcel Ciolacu is expected to arrive at the scene.

Poland, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Austria, Hungary and Romania have been preparing for Boris’s arrival since Thursday. Many cultural events have been cancelled due to strong winds and exceptional rain.
