SpaceX rocket on course to enable first private spacewalk

A SpaceX rocket blasted off from Florida on Tuesday to carry out the first-ever private spacewalk mission. For Elon Musk, it will also be an opportunity to test his very first spacesuits.

“Polaris Dawn is taking off!”, SpaceX announced on the social network X. A rocket took off on Tuesday, September 10 from Florida with American billionaire Jared Isaacman and several employees of Elon Musk’s space company on board for a very special mission: to carry out the first private spacewalk. Until now, this type of exercise, considered one of the riskiest, was the preserve of highly qualified and trained astronauts.

This time, the organization of the spacewalk will be in the hands of Jared Isaacman, a businessman and astronaut who has collaborated for years with Elon Musk and is partly financing the trip, the cost of which has not been revealed.

Jared Isaacman and the three SpaceX employees have been undergoing intensive training for more than two years. Originally scheduled for August 28, the rocket’s launch was postponed indefinitely due to poor weather conditions.
