Dorothée discusses the end of Club Dorothée and the criticism of the show

Icon of several generations, Dorothée left its mark on the youth of millions of viewers for almost forty years. Extremely rare in the media since the cessation of Dorothée Club In 1997, the legendary host agreed to return to the small screen for a special event with Nikos Aliagas on TF1. On the menu: archive images, covers of his greatest hits and moving surprises. Last December, a handful of journalists were able to meet Dorothée during a press conference dedicated to the show. Tele-Leisure was there!

“My heart almost came out of my chest.” : Dorothy “very moved” during the filming of his tribute show on TF1

Tele-Leisure : What made you want to participate in this show?
Dorothy:
I only react out of love and this idea of TF1 was so touching that I fell for it. [Elle sourit.] As we had already made two documentaries, it was an opportunity to offer something else to the public.

How did you react when you learned that a bonus would be awarded to you?
At the time, I wondered if I deserved it and if they were going to have enough material. [Elle rit.] I knew there would be lots of surprises but I didn’t know what to expect. During filming, I was very emotional and my heart almost came out of my chest. several times!

Many guests have expressed their admiration for you. Are you aware of the impact you had on them and the public?
Not at all and it really affects me. We have always made shows responsibly and seriously, while having fun. But at the time, we never imagined that we would make such an impact on our viewers. It’s incredible!

In ten years of Dorothée Clubwhat is your most beautiful memory?
I remember Christmas Eve in 1991 [7,5 millions de téléspectateurs, NDLR] with artists of great kindness like Henri Salvador. There is also the Rock’n’Roll show from December 31, 1993 with notably David Hasselhoff. He was so big that it was difficult to fit me in with him. [Elle rit.] These are memories that I will keep for life.

“It hurts but…” : Dorothée returns to the strong criticism of her show Dorothée Club was the target at the time

What did the show mean to you?
A series of adventures and the opportunity to make charitable broadcasts in order to help others, without falling into misery. THE Dorothée Club was also a way to be there for children who could not go on vacation. It meant a lot to me.

Critics claiming that the Dorothée Club Did the stupid children hurt you at the time?
It hurts, of course… But when a program works, we always criticize it.
Ultimately, what mattered to us was not the opinions of adults, but the reaction of our viewers. And they loved the show.

How did you experience the show stopping in 1997?
I was preparing for it a bit so I took it well. When I started this job, I always told myself that it would end one day. I received a lot of messages of support from the public. The bond has never broken. Once the shock passed, I told myself that I had to take advantage of it to do something else because life goes on. [Elle sourit.]

Exactly, what does your life look like today?
She is calmer! I have time to see my loved ones. Before, everyone knew that I wouldn’t come if they invited me. Now I answer: “Be careful, I can say yes!”.

What kind of viewer are you?
I’m a telephage. I watch a lot of series, documentaries, magazines on criminal cases and certain political shows. I also like Nikos Aliagas and Cyril Hanouna because they are often live. It’s not easy, so hats off!

What show concept could bring you back to television?
I am open to anything, as long as the proposal is interesting. What is certain is that I could not be a professor or even a juror. When we were recruiting dancers for the Dorothée ClubI hid because I only loved the most worthless people. [Elle rit.]

Will we ever see you again on stage?
I wouldn’t know how to answer you… All I can tell you is that, there too, the doors are not closed.
