You appear in the series Double game. Tell me a little about your character…
I play Joanie, Adam’s partner (Rachid Badouri). She is deeply in love with him, but she would appreciate it if he got a more stable job to help pay the bills. She is an ambitious and careerist woman, an endearing little girl. Throughout the series, we will learn more about her and her daughter, played by Nayla, Rachid’s eldest daughter!
So you were part of their family dynamic! How were the shoots?
Nayla was very good, she followed directions well. I really enjoyed working with her. The fact that we had so much freedom with the lyrics really brought a nice freshness and kept us on our toes. It made the series even funnier, in my opinion.
You have two daughters yourself, how are they?
My oldest, Marie-Jane, is nine years old, my baby, Florence, who will be two in April, is starting to talk! They have a very nice dynamic. They like to play together despite their age difference. They both have character. So sometimes they have a few quibbles, but nothing too complicated. (laughs)
-Does Marie-Jane understand what you do for a living?
I don’t play roles in shows that are popular with young people. But sometimes his friends from school recognize me, mainly thanks to my character in Survive your children. Some people told me aboutAlerts, and I was very surprised! (laughs)
We see you on screen in two detective series, but completely different. How did you juggle both projects?
I have a lot of fun playing in both series, but my characters are total opposites. In AlertsPénélope is a psychocriminologist who must keep her seriousness at work, while in Double gamewe are in “big stupid candy” which makes us feel good. There were a few weeks where I had to shoot scenes in both projects at the same time, which was taxing. Since I don’t appear in every episode ofAlertsmy schedule is less busy than that of some of my colleagues.
After being on Crave, In Memory appears on television. How was your experience on this set?
We shot the script mostly in chronological order, which allowed me to fully understand my role and analyze it. I had time to talk with the team about my character’s arc, which I had divided into four phases. On set, the director followed me in the development of my character. It was a great group effort.
You celebrated 20 years of career in 2024. You landed your first role in a fairly difficult series. Did you quickly understand how to dissociate yourself from your characters?
I played in Human Traffickingan American series in which many Quebec actors participated. I was able to meet Laurence Leboeuf there and share the screen with Donald Sutherland. I arrived there terrified: I didn’t know where to go or who to talk to! (laughs) On top of that, I played two 14-year-old twin sisters, one of whom was caught in sexual slavery. So I had very intense and emotional scenes when I was already so stressed about playing this first role. At that point, I hadn’t yet figured out how to step back. I just recited my lines simply. I think I was as terrified as my character, which ended up working quite well! (laughs)
