For “Star Wars”, Ryan Gosling ready to try his hand at lightsaber in a new film

CINEMA – After Mark Hamill, Hayden Christensen and Adam Driver, the next generation seems to be assured. Ryan Gosling is in very advanced negotiations to headline an upcoming Star Wars. The actor of Barbie et The Fall Guy would play under the direction of Shawn Levy, to whom the spectators owe in particular Deadpool 3, a hit at the box office last summer carried by the duo Ryan Reynolds – Hugh Jackman.

As reported by specialist magazines The Hollywood Reporter et Varietythe Canadian actor is in fact in discussions to play the main role of this feature film with a still unknown title. Apart from the very possible presence of Ryan Gosling on the poster, the project remains very nebulous. The only information that has so far filtered concerns the positioning of the film.

It will not be a sequel, a prequel, or an origin story. Exit the expanded Skywalker/Solo clan, Obi Wan and other hooded Yodas. But for now that’s all we know. The screenplay in the hands of Jonathan Tropper (Banshee, See, The Adam Project) is kept secret.

The vein Star Wars

This film is not the only project Star Wars in the pipes. A feature film directed by James Mangold and set more than 25,000 years before the original trilogy is also in preparation. It should return to the origins of the famous Force which allows the Jedi to levitate objects (among other things).

Viewers will also encounter characters they know from other films. First in Star Wars New Order by Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy, direct suite of Star Wars Episode IX: The Rise of Skywalker. But also in The Mandalorian & Grogdirected by Jon Favreau with actor Pedro Pascal, already in the series, in the cast. The latter will also be the first film Star Wars to be released in theaters after seven years, in May 2026.

Since the release of the third part of the third trilogy with Daisy Ridley and Adam Driver, fans of the intergalactic saga have still had plenty to do with many series, of very variable quality: Obi-Wan kenobi, The Acolyte and more recently Skeleton Crew. They will also soon reunite with Diego Luna, aka Cassian Andor, for season 2 of the eponymous series, on Disney+. Ryan Gosling will, in the meantime, star in the science fiction film Project Hail Mary in 2026.
