CINEMA – Two years after François Civil, here comes Oulaya Amamra’s turn to take on the cape, the sword and the impetuous character of d’Artagnan. This Wednesday, January 22, the 28-year-old French actress discovered in Divines is starring in the latest feature film by her sister Houda Benyamina, All for one.

In this new adaptation of Three musketeers, the story of our hero from Gascony has been somewhat rewritten. Here, she is a Morisco woman. And her name is Sarah. Freed from the hands of an unscrupulous bandit, she offers her saviors – three men named Athos, Porthos and Aramis – to help them in their mission.

The Queen of France took flight. At court, where his reputation is not in good shape, rumors about his absence are already spreading. It is said that she cannot produce an heir to the throne. Worse, she’s addicted to opium. Quickly, we must bring her back to the king and save her honor, which a malicious cardinal is doing everything to undermine.

But now, along the way, Sarah is stunned. The three musketeers that she thought were real alpha males are in fact women, three outlaws rejected by society who, to make themselves up, wear a fake penis between their legs, a few hairs on their chin and a bandage to the chest. The adventure begins.

« Working the man in me »

Said like that, All for one sounds very juicy, but the reality is a little less so. The third feature film from the Caesarized director touches on some good ideas, including her approach to Muslims in Spain converted to Catholicism or her schoolboy caricature of masculinity. But she gets tangled up in the dialogue, the story and the tone.

In this embarrassing storm, only one actress is sticking her head above water: it’s Déborah Lukumuena. The Porthos she portrays swallows flies, makes fun of his adversaries, stares at women like an old thug, and almost has an orgasm at the sight of a man in tears. We are on the verge of the grotesque. Never below, never above.

It’s clever, like the way she worked on her role. “ For a long time, I thought of myself as masculine compared to othersdeclares the 30-year-old actress in the production notes. I always thought that my large build made me particularly masculine. So, I started from my own build to work on the man in me. »

She specifies: “ I had to work on the extraordinary notion of my character. At the end of the road, I realized that by being a man, I invited back my own femininity. Playing a man also taught me to stop apologizing for the place I take. »

Deborah Lukumuena in 2025

Like any swashbuckling film, this one required a certain amount of physical preparation from its cast, mixing sport and diet, indicates Déborah Lukumuena. “ The body ingested things for months, then totally spit them out at certain points during filmingshe remembers. It was as if certain movements escaped and became completely natural. »

Since winning the César for best supporting actress in 2017, the young woman from Val-de- has stood out on screen and on stage. The former Sorbonne student, who became the first black actress to be rewarded by the Academy, shared the stage with Audrey Lamy and Corinne Masiero in The Invisibles, amazed the Festival with his monologue by Ali Zamir, then played opposite Gérard Depardieu in the film Robust.

A collaboration with the 76-year-old actor indicted for rape which did not prevent Déborah Lukumuena from continuing to take flight in complete serenity. She is announced for the casting of three other productions in 2025, including The space missionnew comedy by Jean-Pascal Zadi with Reda Kateb and Lous and the Yakuzas. A trajectory that is not going to stop there, not even because of a bad film.
