Agnès Jaoui: Tender reunion with the children of her friend who died at only 58 years old

The Forum des Images de hosted the 30th International Press Lights ceremony on Monday January 20, 2025. Launched in 1996 by the International Press Lights Academy, composed of correspondents from the international press in Paristhis awards ceremony is often cited as the French equivalent of the Golden Globes in the United States because it operates on the same model. In fact, 123 international correspondents, representing 61 countries, vote each year to reward the best French cinema of the previous year. Less publicized than that of the Césars, the Lumières ceremony of the international press attracts far fewer stars. However, some emblematic faces of French cinema sometimes go there. This year, the famous actress and director Agnès Jaoui traveled to Forum des Images to attend this event.

On site, she notably met Adam Bonitzer and his sister Agathe Bonitzer, who are the children of the late filmmaker Sophie Fillières. As a reminder, the latter is died following a long illness on July 31, 2023 in Paris, at the age of 58. Her funeral then took place on the afternoon of August 11, 2023 at the crematorium of the Père-Lachaise cemetery, where she was cremated. Unfortunately, Sophie Fillières did not have time to complete her final feature film before her death. Agathe and Adam Bonitzer thus respected their mother’s last wishes by completing this film themselves, called My life, my facein which Agnès Jaoui played. “Our mother shot the film exactly the way she wanted. She was hospitalized the day after the shooting, and for the three weeks that followed, we were by her side. When we knew, at the same time as her, that she wouldn’t be able to finish the film, she immediately asked us to ride it“, had notably indicated Agathe Bonitzer to Liberation.

30th International Press Lights ceremony: Jacques Audiard acclaimed with five awards for his film Emilie Perez

“We were able to discuss the film with her. We were able to watch some rushes together. She gave us directions, we took notes. Then, we entered the editing room in September, only a month after his funeral! With François Quiqueré (the editor, editor’s note), who had not edited her previous films, but whom she had chosen for this one a long time ago. She was confident knowing we were with him. The three of us watched the rushes. He worked alone on the first version, before we came back to edit together, three or four months, every day, until January“, she also added. Regarding the 30th Lumières ceremony prize list of the international press, Jacques Audiard won no less than five prizes with his film called Emilia Perez, notably in the categories best film, best direction and best screenplay.
