While Los Angeles is struggling to recover after the violent fires that ravaged the region and caused the death of more than 20 people, some voices are beginning to question the holding of the 97th Oscars ceremony on March 2. This is the case of the legendary novelist Stephen King.
As a member of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, King is called upon to vote for Oscar winners each year. However, he will not do it this year, announced the author of the successful novels That, Carrie et Shining, the child of light on his Bluesky account a few days ago.
“I’m not voting for the Oscars this year. In my opinion they should cancel them. No glitter with Los Angeles on fire,” Stephen King wrote on the social network.
Stephen King is not the only one to question the Oscars ceremony in the current context. Last week, actresses Rosanna Arquette and Jean Smart suggested that upcoming awards nights like the Oscars, Grammys and SAG Awards be transformed into charity events to raise funds to help fire victims.
-Remember that the announcement of the Oscar nominations has already been postponed twice to give resident Academy members living in Los Angeles more time to vote.
The Academy also decided to cancel its annual nominees’ luncheon, which was to be held on February 10, and to postpone the presentation of the Scientific and Technical Oscars, originally scheduled for February 18.
