Riding an exercise bike would improve your memory, study suggests

Riding an exercise bike is good for your health. For years, physical activities have been celebrated for their many benefits on the body. Not only do they improve cardiovascular health, but they also strengthen muscle mass. And that’s not all.

A recent scientific study has just discovered that physical activities, particularly exercise cycling, have such a significant impact on the brain. By applying these exercises regularly, you reduce the risk of chronic diseases while improving cognitive functions such as attention, information processing and memory, explains Jason Deegan’s specialized site.

Participants were divided into two groups: one spent 25 minutes on an exercise bike and the other did no exercise. The scientists then found that the first group performed better on memory tests of spatial awareness.

Researchers don’t yet know exactly how this happens in the brain. However, they believe that physical exercise stimulates the production of neurotrophic factors (a chemical substance in the brain) which helps the growth of new neurons and strengthens the connections between them. Researchers therefore believe that physical activity has a positive impact on neuroplasticity, vital in learning and memory.

As a reminder, doctors recommend practicing physical activity for 30 minutes every day (walking, swimming, running, dancing, etc.), while having fun.
