Cinema has its stars and among them, there are also… certain animals. This is for example the case of Crystal, a monkey who is now celebrating her thirtieth birthday and therefore her career is simply amazing.

Hollywood’s most famous monkey

Currently, various cinemas in are screening Better Man, a rather unusual Robbie Williams biopic in which the singer is portrayed… as a chimpanzee. A monkey on the big screen is not the first time that this has happened and if we obviously think of the long saga of Planet of the Apes, our attention also goes to Crystal, a female capuchin monkey who is literally… an actress.

She belongs to the company Birds & Animals Unlimited, which is responsible for supplying animals to Hollywood, and has been trained by the firm since its inception. And as much as these arrived very quickly, sinceShe began her career in 1997 in George of the Jungle, although she was only born in 1997.

= A very solid career

Now 30 years old, Crystal can boast of having an ultra-impressive filmography. She’s the one we see as a drug dealer in Hangover 2, but also she who plays Dexter in Night at the Museum. We could also see her, in the 90s, in Dr. Dolittle and American Pie; in the 2000s, Crystal appeared in real hits like Amateur Robbers, 3:10 for Yuma, American Pie 2, Night at the Museum 2 and the Malcom series.

The 2010s were also prolific: the series Community, The Big Bang Theory, Animal Practice and many other films. Recently, she even appeared in The Fabelmans, Steven Spielberg’s latest feature film, released in 2023. And she’s probably not finished yet.

Crystal’s career is indeed quite remarkable and takes us back to those of other star animals. For example, the dog Rintintin who starred in more than 30 films and was even nominated for the 1929 Oscars ; the Jack Russell Uggie who appeared in The Artist or Water for Elephants (he also left his fingerprints on the Walk of Fame) or even Keiko, the orc from the Save Willy trilogy who would have won 36 million dollars for his role in said films.
