Comment
The cries of outrage following Mark Zuckerberg’s rallying to Trump and Musk have something ridiculous. They prevent us from understanding why we got to this point. And they don’t tell us what to do to counter populism.

Mark Zuckerberg’s rallying to Donald Trump had the effect of betrayal among those who saw in Facebook and Instagram Princess Leia resisting Darth Vader, alias X, alias Musk. We should have been wary: the muscle gain of the little Harvard genius and founder of the first global social network announced his masculinist conversion. Enough jokes? Not sure we’re kidding.
At what point in his life was Zuckerberg sincere?
At what point in his entrepreneurial life is Mark Zuckerberg most sincere? In his deconstructed period, little heart and bowl of cereal? Or when he does the protein man in transit to the MMA cage, his goal in 2025? What does all this have to do with his decision to remove the fact-checker service on Facebook and Instagram, you might ask? Everything fits together.
Fact-checkers are for the fragileperhaps thinks Mark Zuckerberg following Elon Musk and Donald Trump. You have to know how to take offense, inconvenience, contradictory remarks. The individual must be able to respond to the adversary by establishing a balance of power. This conception which idealizes free expression can, however, degenerate when it pushes to kill the person who expresses it or the person who feels offended.
Extrapolating, this libertarian ideology is consistent with the practice of the virile deal that Donald Trump wants to establish in relations between States instead of regulation by international treaties – from the virile deal to domination, however, there is only ‘a step, as we see in the Greenland affair.
-From transidentity to the masculinist backlash
The reversal, sincere or not, of Marc Zuckerberg, is a summary of the last American presidential election: the majority of the people rejected woke ideas, associated with transidentity, in other words with the loss of the male-female benchmarks which underpin the common sense and enable the sustainability of the human species.
Democrats in the United States, by having supported or refrained from criticizing wokism, otherwise called identity politics, which everyone knew was in the minority in society, favored a virilist backlash, which we hope will ‘it will not be detrimental to sexual minorities or to women, who had obtained the right to live in security and autonomy, well before the irruption into the political field of deconstructionist ideology, eradicator of value systems.
Don’t throw out the baby of law with the wokist bathwater
As the other would say, it is now a question of not throwing the baby – the primacy of truth over lies, the rule of law, the protection of minorities – with the wokist bathwater. This will notably play out on social networks, which, contrary to what some claim, did not wait for Elon Musk to spread conspiracy, hatred and stupidity. “Community notes” making it possible to counter fallacious arguments, in force on X and which will be extended to Facebook, without being a panacea, are rather a good tool.????
The calls of the “resistance” to leave while believing that he does not have to demonstrate it, even if only by confronting the disseminators of fake news.
What Musk and Zuckerberg criticize fact-checkers is for being in the service of dominant thinking. By mainstream thinking, they mean “progressive ideas.” They claim that the mission of the fact-checkers, which they got rid of, was less to track down lies than to make people think straight. Are they right? If denouncing false facts and particularly conspiratorial remarks remains, in our opinion, essential, fact-checkers sometimes tend to be complacent with those who think like them or, even, resign themselves to not making waves.
Protecting yourself against the ideology of the strongest
Where Elon Musk risks dragging democracies towards the reefs is by promoting a vision that does without the work of the media and the role of constituted bodies, starting with parliament. We do not combat the failures and inadequacies of the State by designating scapegoats. The populism of the wealthy owner of opens a boulevard of certainties to the detriment of the search for truth. The scientist that he is, however, knows what his technological achievements owe to hypotheses and reason.
This is why it is the duty of democracies to counter his attempts to influence electoral campaigns, not by depriving him of his voice, but by subjecting him, as well as his algorithms if applicable, to the rules of debate and satire, the domain par excellence of free expression, as Charlie Hebdo worked on it this week.????
Political correctness and its avatar Wokism have caused considerable harm by inhibiting speech which, today, surges like a tsunami. But there is even worse harm: the end of the rule of law on which our democracy is based.
