Faced with the victim of the fake Brad Pitt, why are we laughing instead of showing empathy?
“An investigation is indeed underway with the financial brigade” in order to “to identify the beneficiary accounts of the funds”, specified the prosecution to the Ile-de-France daily. He adds that at this stage, “no suspects have been identified.”
Of the “grazers”a word used to describe these scammers specializing in online sentiment scams, made Anne believe that the American actor Brad Pitt was in love with her. She sent money to this fake Brad Pitt, losing more than 800,000 euros. His story broadcast Sunday evening on the TF1 show Seven to eight has been widely commented on.
Conflict between Anne and TF1
It is the amount that these scammers managed to extract from the fifty-year-old in a year and a half, between February 2023 and July 2024, which is particularly shocking. The edited photos and videos generated by artificial intelligence sent by the scammers to the victim were also mocked on social networks.
The fifty-year-old was the target of mockery after the broadcast of the report, and even of cyberharassment, pushing the first channel to remove the replay of the show from its site. For her part, Anne castigated TF1, believing that the journalist “retained only what should not be retained to tarnish my image and in order to gain an audience”.
“I can understand that she is affected by the impact of the report but at no time, Seven to eight did not seek to harm her or make fun of her. When we broadcast this subject, we do not have in mind to attract an audience. For his part, the editor-in-chief of the show, Philippe Pécoul, defended himself. He also supports the victim who “had the courage” to talk about his story.
