On August 19, Crown Princess Victoria became, at the age of 47, a new student of the SOFU program, special officer training at the Defense Academy. This course is intended for holders of university degrees who wish to obtain an officer rank in the army. Before starting this training, the daughter of King Carl XVI Gustaf also underwent a remedial course to learn the basics of life as a soldier, in spring 2024.

Until now, when Crown Princess Victoria had to attend an official event related to the army, she was content to wear the simple fatigues and not the uniform. This Tuesday, January 14, for the very first time, Victoria appeared in a Navy uniform in a photo shared by the Royal Household on the occasion of her return to studies after the winter holidays. The photo was taken the day before, Monday, the first day of school for the Academy cadets. We therefore understand that Crown Princess Victoria chose the Marine component to carry out her training.

A first appearance in a Navy uniform

Crown Princess Victoria wears the elegant navy blue suit with gold buttons which also features gold ink and a gold crown. This is the daily uniform of the Navy, the 1948 model, as specified by Svensk Dam who was in contact with the spokesperson for the royal family. Crown Princess Victoria has only been wearing this new uniform since the start of the school year. The Royal House explains that students at the Defense Academy are now beginning their military strategy training. In February, a first diploma will be awarded to Crown Princess Victoria and her comrades, thus concluding a first part of the training. At the end of this training, Victoria will obtain the rank of “Fänrik”, which is the equivalent of the rank of ensign in many armed forces, the lowest rank in the Marine component.

The program lasts between 20 and 25 months and an additional six months is required beforehand for those who do not have previous military experience. Which is not the case for the Crown Princess. Victoria already had her first contact with the army in 2003. She had followed basic military training at SWEDINT, the International Center of the Armed Forces. The training lasted three weeks and allowed him to learn the basics of the army, particularly the handling of weapons. Subsequently, she improved her military knowledge, mainly from a strategic and theoretical point of view, by following a study program on conflict resolution, provided by the Defense Academy. In 2023, she also followed a short training course provided by the Army and in spring 2024 she completed a practical remedial internship. She also holds a degree from Uppsala University in peace and conflict studies.
