The world of gastronomic criticism loses one of its most illustrious members, five years after the death of Sébastien Demorand. Jean-Luc Petitrenaud was an admired personality in the audiovisual world, unashamedly fighting to pay homage to French cuisine, highlighting local gastronomy.

Passed by 5, Europe 1, L’Express or even France 3, this former CAP boilermaker student has multiplied his media experiences, offering him both a certain status in the world of journalism, but also granting him respect and admiration of cooks.

Cyril Lignac deplores the loss of his friend

For Cyril Lignac, also a figure in both television and cooking, the emotion is palpable. On his Instagram account, the host of Everyone in the kitchen pays tribute to a friend. “How sad my friend! How I loved our long lunches, our laughs, your joy of living! Our trip home to Aveyron with my parents was so good! And your expression that made me laugh when you said I’ll follow suit! We will miss you.”

The two men shared even more of a bond as Jean-Luc Petitrenaud’s daughter, Louise, occupied in 2021 a position as a juror on Lignac’s show, Who will be the best pastry chef?.

The cook Jean-François Piège, famous for having participated as a juror on the show Top Chefalso saluted the memory of Jean-Luc Petitrenaud. “Very saddened by the disappearance of Jean-Luc Petitrenaud, we will really miss his kindness, his friendliness, his greed and his tremendous joie de vivre! He was cheerful, he loved chefs and restaurants, he loved good food and good wines, he loved sharing tables with friends, especially at Christian Constant”we can read on his Instagram account.

Her colleague Anne-Sophie Pic also expressed her grief. “You left to join the eternal brigade and our sadness is immense. Lovely memories have been made over the last 25 years and I will never forget our rides in your taxi for your show Grands Gourmands”she addresses him on her social network.

The gastronomic critic will have known how to span the ages and also touch the younger generations. The daughter of Pierre Sled and Sophie Davant, Valentine, also a culinary journalist, sent him a vibrant tribute: “French gastronomy is losing a monument today and one of its best storytellers. I probably wouldn’t be doing this job if I hadn’t crossed paths with him. We had delicious moments as a family and shared memorable meals. Good luck dear Jean-Luc and thank you for passing on your passion to me.”

Gone too soon, at 74, Jean-Luc Petitrenaud leaves a bitter taste for all those who loved him.
