Ariana Grande responds to rumors about Audrey Hepburn biopic

Ariana Grande has responded to rumors that she could play Audrey Hepburn in a possible biopic dedicated to the iconic actress.

During the National Board of Review gala, Ariana Grande returned to rumors concerning a biopic on Audrey Hepburn, after paying tribute to the icon during the 82nd edition of the Golden Globes. “I always loved the glamor of old Hollywood – Marilyn [Monroe] and Audrey have always been my references. I have always been drawn to silhouettes from the 1950s, 1960s and retro vintage,” she told Access Hollywood. “I can’t remember a time when this wasn’t my visual world,” the artist continued.

“Would you one day play the role of Audrey Hepburn in a biopic?” asked the journalist. To which Ariana Grande reacted with great spontaneity. “Oh my God, why is everyone asking me that? You are crazy! You’re crazy, you’re crazy.”

Questioned by Entertainment Tonight later in the evening, the musician, however, returned to the possibility of playing the late actress in a biopic. “I have no idea. “It would have to be done so well and so perfectly… I don’t know,” she said, modestly adding, “That’s very nice” when a reporter suggested it would be perfect for this role.

A biopic in preparation since 2022

Speculation arose after Ariana Grande sported an archive Givenchy dress from 1966 at the Golden Globes, an explicit homage to the designer’s muse. “The dress is pale yellow silk with a hand-beaded bodice…from the epic Givenchy Haute Couture/Audrey Hepburn era…one of the most important unions between a designer and a muse,” a confirmed an archivist at the fashion house. As a reminder, Ariana Grande had already echoed the British actress in 2021 with her wedding dress inspired by the “Diamonds on the Couch” star.

In early 2022, Rooney Mara was cast as Audrey Hepburn in a biopic directed by Luca Guadagnino. However, this project has since been delayed. Details surrounding the film remain confidential, but it was to be written by Academy Award-nominated screenwriter Michael Mitnick.

Earlier this year, Rooney Mara told Deadline that although development on the project had slowed, it was “not totally abandoned.” “Luca will no longer direct it, but the project is still very much alive… I can’t say more at the moment,” she added.
