After having abandoned Instagram for several years, the Duchess of Sussex made her return to the social network with a video to celebrate 2025.

She made her big comeback on Instagram the day after the New Year. Barefoot on the beach, Meghan Markle rushes towards the sea before writing “2025” on the sand. Hair blowing in the wind, a big smile on his lips, we hear him laughing as he glances at the camera. And it is with this video filmed by Prince Harry that the Duchess of Sussex reinvested on social networks, this Wednesday, January 1. But, a detail which is not one: the comments under this first publication have been deactivated. A decision that made more than one people talk. “Meghan Markle is still a coward,” annoys an Internet user on Daily Mail . “A narcissist always deactivates comments,” retorts another.

However, not everyone is of this opinion. “I’m glad she deactivated the comments to have peace of mind,” observes a user of the platform, as always noted by Daily Mail. “Shout out to Meghan for turning off comments on her Instagram account. She doesn’t need the toxicity of weird people,” agrees another.

“Most trolled person in the world”

Meghan Markle no longer had a personal Instagram account since her engagement to Prince Harry in 2018. The former actress by Suits was previously an avid user of the social network, where she posted content about her dogs, her travels around the world and her favorite restaurants.

She also hasn’t had a professional account for 5 years. In March 2020, with her husband Prince Harry, they announced to their approximately 11.3 million subscribers the closure of their Instagram account @sussex. Barely a year later, on January 10, 2021, the Sunday Times revealed that the Sussexes had finally decided to no longer use social networks at all. And for good reason, a few months earlier, in October 2020, Meghan Markle declared in the podcast Teenager Therapy : “I was told that in 2019, I was the most trolled person in the world, men and women combined. However, for eight months, I was not even visible, I was on maternity leave or with a baby. She also spoke of the “almost insurmountable suffering” caused by the online harassment she had suffered.
