“My only goal was to end it”, the host discusses the impact of the trial on his mental health

This Thursday, January 9, 2024, Stéphane Plaza is on trial before the criminal court for regular violence against two former partners, facts which he disputes. During his hearing, the host spoke of the devastating impact of this affair on his morale and the suicidal thoughts that crossed his mind.

Expected in court in August 2024 to be heard in a case of physical and psychological violence against two former partners, Stéphane Plaza was finally heard, on Thursday January 9, 2024, before the criminal court. Citing “psychological fragilities”, the television host did not appear at his trial last summer.

As a reminder, the famous real estate agent was on trial for “habitual physical and/or psychological violence by a partner” between 2018 and 2022 against a former partner, Amandine, as well as for “habitual psychological violence by partner” towards another, Paola, between 2021 and 2022. Alleged facts for which Stéphane Plaza faces 10 years in prison and a fine of 150,000 euros. Throughout his hearing, Stéphane Plaza denied the facts with which he was accused by the courts.

Stéphane Plaza: “When you are suspected of violence, it’s over”

On the stand, the 54-year-old host spoke of the devastating impact of this affair on his career and his mental health. “I had to shoot for a Marvel in the United States. When you are suspected of violence, it’s over. You don’t go to Disney anymore. It’s over. I don’t make films anymore”, he declared as reported by our colleagues at BFMTV.

And to talk about his departure from Les Grosses Têtes: On the shows, I myself chose to withdraw from Grosses Têtes because I am very affected. And making love when we have something that is eating away at our insides, when we have something that is not resolved, I don’t find that very honest.”. The extent of the media coverage of this affair also weighed on the morale of the real estate agent who indicated that he had seen three psychologists and was on an antidepressant.

Stéphane Plaza: “I didn’t think I would be so fragile”

Beyond seeing his activity reduced since the announcement of the trial, Stéphane Plaza spoke of his state of mental health and his suicidal thoughts. “I didn’t think I would be so fragile. Since this affair came out, my chest hurts”declared Stéphane Plaza on the stand.

And to tell about this time when he wanted to end his life. “In December 2023. I got up at 2 a.m. I got dressed. I went out to the terrace on the 6th floor. I stood on my railing for 30 seconds. My only goal was to end it. The only thing that held me back was that I told myself: ‘If I jump, people will think I’m guilty’. It’s the only thing I came back for.”he assured at the bar. At the end of the trial, 18 months suspended prison sentence and 10,000 euros in fines were requested against the host. The verdict is expected on February 18.
