After his slip on Imane Khelif, Elon Musk shares fake news about Algerians abroad

In the United States, the billionaire Elon Musk showed incredible levity by sharing false information from an anonymous source claiming that Algerians are more inclined than the rest of the world to commit misdeeds.

The accusation, wherever it comes from, is obviously unacceptable. It is even more so coming from a character of such importance. Elon Musk is not only one of the richest men in the world or the owner of the social network X.

He is now a senior official of the world’s leading power. He was appointed to the cabinet of Donald Trump who will officially take office as President of the United States on January 20.

Either the billionaire shares anything and everything on his social network as an anonymous Internet user would do, or he wants to sully the reputation of Algerians as he has already done by wrongly accusing the Algerian boxer Imane Khelif of being ” a man.”

Otherwise how can we explain that he shares false and unsourced information, which has all the attributes of Fake News?

After Imane Khelif, Elon Musk shares false information about Algerians

An Internet user with the already dubious profile name, “iamyesyouareno,” claimed that “studies” have shown that men of non-European origin “commit 84% of assault rapes even though they only represent about 10%.” of the population”.

These same so-called “studies” would also have revealed that an Algerian is 122 times more likely to commit rape than a Swede, and an Afghan is 69 times more likely to do so!

Obviously no author of these “studies” is cited, nor any university or organization which may have carried them out.

In short, this is Fake News like we encounter in abundance every day on the Internet.

Except that this one was shared by one of the most powerful men in the world and member of the cabinet of the President of the United States, on a page followed by 117 million followers. The tweet has been viewed more than 18 million times.

This is not the first time that Musk has relayed fake news. Last summer, he joined, notably Donald Trump, Giorgia Meloni and the writer JK Rowling, in the smear campaign led by the extreme right against Algerian Olympic champion Imane Khelif, wrongly accused of being a “transgender”.
