Guillaume Canet recounts how he was threatened by a fan of Marion Cotillard

When fans’ love gets out of control, it sometimes gives you chills.

We remember Mylène Farmer, traumatized by a fan who killed, in 1991, a switchboard operator from her Polydor label using a shotgun. The fan was furious at not having had the opportunity to meet his idol. Some do everything to track down the target of their lust: calls, hiding, intrusion… Often, they present an erotomaniac profile, that is to say they have the delusional conviction of being loved by another person, and are in denial about all the elements that do not corroborate their thesis, going as far as persecution. Particularly those close to the object of their desire.

This is what Guillaume Canet unfortunately experienced from an admirer of his partner, Marion Cotillard.

Indeed, the fan in question had nothing to do with him; she only had eyes for the star of The Kidand the 51-year-old actor and director appeared as an obstacle to his fantasy.

“It went very far, too far,” he confides in Guillaume Pley’s show, Legendvisibly still marked by the affair. “It was worrying because there were threats, we had to warn the authorities so that it would stop. It’s always scary when things go too far like that. »

Embarrassed, the companion of the 49-year-old actress would have liked this story to be resolved differently and even seems to feel compassion for this psychologically weakened person. “We don’t want to put them in trouble either. We want things to go well with the authorities so that they don’t have any problems behind them,” explains Guillaume Canet, while justifying: “but at the same time, we need to protect ourselves.”
