For years, Compliments in rap weren’t our specialty. Especially between French rappersbecause France is a small territory and the cake to be shared between rappers was therefore also small, compared to that of the USA. Everyone was a little afraid that the other would steal their share, so not too many compliments. Fortunately, the trend has been reversed and today there is no more frowned upon to say good things about a fellow rapper. This week is MC Solaar who praised another French rap legend: Boobawho reacted with a lot of respect (for once).

Claude MC was indeed passing through the now famous GQ show in which the guests “judge” French rap. They are shown extracts from clips one after the other and the guests must comment on how these videos make them feel. Solaar notably said some rather interesting things about Gazo, about Gims, but also on… Booba, whom he complimented a lot for his song “Sport Billy”.
It’s a piece that will always be current. These are plans, images of the world going wrong with many, many, many contemporary references. It’s a piece of war. It is certainly also a piece of warning about the progress of the world. I believe thathe has not changed, from Lunatic who looked at the difficulties of the world in the 92, to today, at Sport Billy, where he is doing it this time at world level… We can say that there is consistency.
It’s not so often that rappers send compliments to Kopp, since the new generation constantly lives under the threat of being clashed by “the duke”, so they prefer not to talk about him at all. So obviously, Booba appreciated Solaar’s tribute, to which he responded with a tweet:

However, we remember a time when Kopp rapped “NTM, Solaar, IAM it’s antiquity”, to pique them and create a buzz. So times have changed, and this time it might be a good thing!
