To promote his new film To LifeGuillaume Canet was the guest of the show Let yourself be tempted on RTL. This Sunday, January 5, the actor revealed how Jean-Paul Belmondo influenced him on this project, more than three years after his death.

Barely has the new year begun, Guillaume Canet is back in action. Starring in the action film To Lifethe actor also wrote and produced this Netflix creation which will be available from January 10. Directed by Rodolphe Lauga, this thriller tells the story of a former GIGN agent, played by Guillaume Canet, who tries to save his wife who has been kidnapped by a mysterious and dangerous group of armed men. Guest on the show Let yourself be tempted from RTL this January 5, Marion Cotillard's husband returned to the physical aspect of his role.

Guillaume Canet was inspired by Jean-Paul Belmondo for his new film To Life

More than three years after his death, Jean-Paul Belmondo continues to influence French actors. In To LifeGuillaume Canet performs most of his stunts, as Bébel did. For example, he rappels down the Sacré-Cœur. A sacred stunt which can recall those carried out by the monument of French cinema, like its journey on the roofs of the Galeries Lafayette in Fear in the city (Henri Verneuil, 1975). Concerning this physical commitment to his profession, Guillaume Canet confirms on RTL that Jean-Paul Belmondo has nothing to do with it: He encouraged me a lot. I remember crying when I was a kid when he got hurt on film Hold-Up [réalisé par Alexandre Arcady en 1985, ndlr]. He had cut his head open and I was afraid for him. I had talked about all that with him, because he knew all the sports that I did were a little dangerous, a little extreme”. Victor Belmondo's grandfather then asked him why he didn't reproduce this in his films. “Write it and do it. It’s that simple”Belmondo urged him. “He was right”concludes Guillaume Canet who took the plunge to To Life.

Guillaume Canet is stressed for his son, Marcel, who wants to become an actor

Like father, like son. In 2023, Marcel Canet, the son of Guillaume Canet and Marion Cottilard, played in Asterix and Obelix: The Middle Kingdomhis first film. At the age of thirteen, the son of the two actors already shares the same passion as his parents, but Guillaume Canet admitted to feeling certain fears regarding his career choice. “It’s a very difficult job, which often requires you to question yourself, it can sometimes be hard to cope with”he explained in 50’ Inside. On the other hand, he has very good memories of working with his son, in this film that he directed. “It was great, extremely stressful, but he wanted it”he declared with pride.
