The Christmas meal has barely finished when France 3 already invites you to get your fill of it by broadcasting, Thursday December 26, 2024 at 9:05 p.m., Wing or Thigh. Claude Zidi’s classic, released in 1976, just after The Bidasses are going to war et The shallot racebrings together two humor stars of the time: Louis de Funès and Coluche. The two men play Charles Duchemin and his son Gérard. The first, director of a gastronomic guide, embarks the second in a war against industrial food and for the preservation of traditional French gastronomy! A scenario that makes the mouths of viewers water, but apparently also the actors on set…
“I was no longer Louis de Funès, nothing anymore.” : the actor’s confidences about his two heart attacks
On October 31, 1976, Louis de Funès was invited to talk about his new film to Michel Drucker. The actor, who died a few years later, in 1983, had just recovered from two heart attacks. “I see myself again in the ambulance. A second before, I was a man tense about revenue, about entries, about contracts. I only knew people with money who only thought about money. […] And now I turned the page, suddenly, definitively. I was no longer Louis de Funès, nothing. I knew, clearly, that I would never get angry again, especially to earn a living.”confided the actor to L’Express the same year. Moreover, the doctors had told him: “You must be arrested for life”. “I was delighted. I felt slight tremors of joy. Ah! I’m going to go see my carrots and my salads! Ah! the little birds, the fishing! In the evening, all the same, I had a blues. And then, that’s it. Since it was over, it was over.”. Well no. Between 1975 and 1982, Louis de Funès appeared in five more films. The first after his convalescence being this gargantuan project with Claude Zidi. Project on the set of which he had to restrict himself.
Coluche, very greedy on the set of Wing or Thigh
One of the strengths of this film, apart from its harsh criticism of junk food, is the dishes that parade on the screen. “These were real dishes that were made by a great caterer, succulent dishes. There was enormous rossini steak”remembers Louis de Funès on the Michel Drucker set. However, he did not let himself be tempted. “Wine is an enemy, alcohol is an enemy, tobacco… I haven’t smoked for 20 years now. It doesn’t tempt me anymore. I still spent two and a half months at the Necker hospital. I was fine. I had already gotten out of the habit of drinking coffee or wine, so I held on.”he explains. The actor claims to be on a diet and not to have broken a single diet during filming. And for good reason: “I eat red cabbages from my garden, I’m the one who makes them. Organically grown! Potatoes, steaks, things from the grill. My wife makes me delicious meals.” Less for Louis de Funès therefore implies more for Coluche, who does not seem to have been choosy! “To repeat, Coluche said: ‘I have to eat a little. Without that I can’t repeat. He ate three! I tasted, I dipped pieces of bread a little. […] He stole them! I swear it on the heads of my children! He stole three rice cakes. The third was hidden behind a decor”he laughs. An appetizing memory!
