On the occasion of the release of the documentary Céline Dion: The Iron Lady, one of the artist's sisters indulged in certain confidences. And she's not the only one!
While Celine Dion has left the stage for many months, the public is waiting for only one thing: his big return to stage. Indeed, the artist suffers from stiff person syndromeand neurological disorder very rare, which affects his muscles and prevents him from singing. This Sunday December 22, 2024, BFMTV therefore made the choice to broadcast a documentarytitled Celine Dion: The Iron Ladywhich looks back on these last few years, which were particularly difficult for the star. However, she had been experiencing the symptoms of the disease for almost 17 years, without understanding their meaning. She also tried to fight them, thanks to self-medication. There sister of Celine Dion, Claudetteremembers the appearance of these first symptoms: “She was already having small twitches. But we said to ourselves, 'it doesn't matter, it's a muscle'. We too get up at night with cramps in our calves.”. However, the latter remembers a particularly complicated crisis to manage:
“She said to me: 'Claudette, come and help me.' She couldn't put her boots back on because her foot was twisted. She couldn't have control.”.
Regarding a possible return to the stage of the artistClaudette Dion states:
“I am convinced that yes. It's vital for her. I know there's a dormant project in Vegas. She wants to see the scene again and [de] hear the public again. She feeds off all that.”.
Exceptional courage, always praised by fans!
The disease will never go away
One thing is certain: Céline Dion is particularly well followed by health professionals. It is particularly a question ofAmanda Piquet, neurologist at the University of Colorado and disease specialist. The latter also spoke to BFMTV about the star: “She came to see us at Denver University Hospital for our expertise in autoimmune diseases.”. And protocol was therefore put in place, based on five days of physical training per weekintended for slow the progression of symptoms. The neurologist adds:
“Even with our best treatments, we do not make the disease disappear. But it can be managed, I often draw a parallel with diabetes. There are ups and downs, but when you find the right treatment, there are more good days than bad.”.
As a result, Céline Dion managed to get back on stage, during the opening ceremony of the Paris Olympic Games. Irene Taylorthe documentary director I am Celine Dionalso spoke. Recently, the latter has entered the singer's intimate circle. In an interview given to Parisianthe American filmmaker assures that Celine Dion was particularly keen on this performance:
“Singing in Paris recharged her soul. […] Finding herself at her peak, to sing again, was like a rebirth for Céline. It was a happy event that touched her enormously.”.
However, she issued some reservations regarding the return of Celine Dion :
“Céline's voice has changed enormously, and she wonders if her audience is ready to hear the new Céline.”.
She continues:
“Céline can no longer push her voice without putting her life in danger, but paradoxically, it is singing that keeps her alive. She [Céline] continues to progress every day, but holding an entire concert seems premature to me. She dreams of it and I wish her, but above all she must take care of herself.”
Patience therefore remains essential!
