Depardieu, PPDA… 135 personalities ask Emmanuel Macron to suspend the Legions of Honor to send “a strong signal”: News

Former minister Aurélien Rousseau and actress Muriel Robin are among the signatories of a letter addressed to Emmanuel Macron in Libération this Friday, December 20. The hundred decorated personalities ask the President for the “immediate suspension” of the Legions of Honor of those indicted for sexist and sexual violence.

On the sidelines of the end of the Mazan rape trial and the conviction on appeal of Nicolas Sarkozy, which could well cause him to lose his Legion of Honor, 135 personalities are asking to suspend the medals of Gérard Depardieu, Patrick Poivre d'Arvor and of senator Joël Guerriau, accused of sexual violence. Former ministers like Aurélien Rousseau, and names in the fight for women's rights like the skater Sarah Abitbol, who denounced the rape and sexual assault committed by her coach, or the committed actress Muriel Robin, are among the signatories of an open letter to Emmanuel Macron, published in Liberation this Friday, December 20.

Elected officials among the signatories

“This gesture would be a strong signal for society, a recognition of the suffering of the victims, and a reaffirmation of the values of our Republic”underline the signatories, all decorated with a reward of which they refuse that the“brilliance is tarnished by the maintenance in order of personalities implicated for sexist and sexual violence”. Aurélien Rousseau is not the only personality in the political world to have mobilized: many elected officials have signed the text, including socialist senator Patrick Kanner, senator Laurence Rossignol, and even former minister Élisabeth Moreno. Everyone asks the President “immediate suspension” decoration of people “indicted for sexist and sexual violence”.

Emmanuel Macron still refuses the withdrawal of Gérard Depardieu's Legion

This request is not due to chance. Issued in the context of the end of the Mazan trial, which saw around fifty defendants convicted for the rape of Gisèle Pelicot, it calls on Emmanuel Macron, who had refused in December 2023 to withdraw the Legion of Honor from Gérard Depardieu, supporting that the actor, then accused of sexual violence by several women, “makes proud”. A year later, the President does not seem to have changed his mind, despite the indictment and new testimonies: “We learned in the commission of inquiry into sexual violence in the world of cinema and live performance that it is Emmanuel Macron who is blocking the withdrawal of the Legion of Honor from Gérard Depardieu”tweeted, Monday, December 16, the environmentalist MP Sandrine Rousseau. Same statement from the ex-Insoumise Clémentine Autain. This new missive could remain a dead letter.
