With Sir Elton’s blessing, the British model made up the singer and brought this hit Christmas song released in 1973 back to life.
The title is timely: Step into Christmas(in French Enter the world of Christmas), Elton John’s hit released in 1973, has just received a facelift. The 77-year-old singer and pianist published the video on his YouTube account on December 18, as well as an excerpt on his Instagram account. Despite the false baldness, the XXL glasses and the light between her teeth, we recognize Cara Delevingne in the skin of the artist. Same cut, same clothes, same decor, the British model replays the clip for Elton’s Christmas hit with great humor.
“The perfect opportunity”
The day the video was published, the 32-year-old supermodel also published an excerpt from this remake of the clip as well as behind-the-scenes images from the shoot. In the caption of one of his publications, we discover a few words signed Elton: “When someone suggested the idea that she (Cara Delevingne editor’s note) plays my role in a piece of the video of Step Into Christmas released in 1973, I thought it was the perfect opportunity. Thank goodness Cara thought the same thing, because the result is excellent.”
These words are taken from a press release from Sir Elton, in which he describes seeing Cara Delevingne at the Glastonbury festival last summer. “We talked about our desire to work together if the idea presented itself,” he said. It’s hilarious to spend time with her; we both have a pretty self-deprecating sense of humor.”
The result of this collaboration is indeed quite excellent. The montage which joins the original version of the clip and the 2024 version shows how much attention has been paid to the smallest details. The model imitates the expressions and grimaces of her elder to perfection, for a funny and light result. It took two Britons to accomplish this Christmas miracle.
