The two performers of the hit “The Sun of My Life” lived a beautiful love story which ended suddenly. It took a while for the singer to get over it.
In 1973, Sacha Distel and Brigitte Bardot hit the top of the charts with the adaptation of a Stevie Wonder hit: “The Sun of My Life”. On screen, they displayed a wonderful bond. And for good reason: the two stars had a beautiful love story. The interpreter of “Scoubidou”, and eternal seducer, spoke in 1992 in “Double Jeu”, the cult show by Thierry Ardisson – available on the INA Arditube channel.
The artist plays the game of sentimental “Who’s who” and recounts “his beautiful life”? Juliette Gréco? “A lot of things happened,” he smiles. Jeanne Moreau? Distel becomes more enigmatic. “What do adventures mean…” Then comes Brigitte Bardot’s turn. The story begins in 1956. Sacha Distel supervised the musical production of the film “And God Created… Woman”. “I had rented a two-hour studio which was very expensive for the small producer that I was. And she arrived an hour late,” points out the singer.

“I didn’t want to become Mr. Bardot”
The two fall in love, talk about engagement and marriage. “We tried to see if it worked and it didn’t work. To break up it takes two. She was away shooting a movie, so she wasn’t there all the time. For my part, I didn’t want to be the man who is always behind, Mr. Bardot,” he explains. The two lovebirds break up. The memory persists. “There are quite a few who played the role afterwards, but we only remember me,” he laughs. Brigitte Bardot finally marries actor Jacques Charrier and gives birth to her son Nicolas.

Disappointment in love turns into an ordeal. While Sacha Distel is performing at the Théâtre de Verdure in Oran, between two songs, someone whistles at the singer and says “cuckold, cuckold”. “She’s the one who made me suffer the most in my life. When you’re in love with the most beautiful woman in the world and you’re dumped, it’s difficult. I was the spurned lover and the laughing stock of the world,” he concludes.
