Sofia Carson became known for the role of Evie, the daughter of the Evil Queen, in the Disney TV movie trilogy Descendants. Since then, the actress and singer has made viewers dance with the film Feel the Beat in 2020 and notably touched the hearts of Netflix subscribers with the feature film Our bruised hearts. Regarding the latter, the actress also spoke about a potential sequel to Télé-Loisirs. But at 31, Sofia Carson is trying out a new genre: action. The young woman indeed shines in Carry-Ona thriller that keeps all its promises with Taron Egerton and Jason Bateman. In this new release, available on Netflix since December 13, 2024 and currently number 1 of the most viewed films of the moment, the actress plays Nora, the girlfriend of Ethan (Taron Egerton), an air security agent who is the victim of a blackmailer (Jason Bateman). The latter threatens to kill Nora if he does not let a dangerous package pass through security so that he can board a flight on Christmas Eve. On the occasion of the launch of the film on the streaming platform, Sofia Carson gave an interview to Télé-Loisirs.
Pour Carry-On on Netflix, Sofia Carson has achieved a new challenge in her career
Télé-Loisirs: What was your biggest challenge with this film?
Sofia Carson : Carry-On is my first action film, so it was an exciting new challenge to take on. It’s also very stimulating to work on this kind of feature film because the action scenes and camera work are different compared to other films. Also working with actors of the caliber of Taron Egerton, Jason Bateman and Danielle Deadwyler was thrilling but also nerve-wracking for me. They pushed me to question myself and grow as an actress. It’s been exciting.
What was your favorite scene to play with Taron Egerton?
The emotional scene that takes place during Nora and Ethan’s lunch break. Obviously, Nora is unaware of the situation and Jason Bateman’s character speaks to Taron Egerton’s character through an earpiece, thus confronting him with an atrociously impossible situation. He has to pretend everything is normal and everything is fine, even though they are both heartbroken over the loss of their friend. It’s a magnificent scene, intense and simple, but where so much is said and yet so little at the same time. It was also a great scene for Taron and I because we loved being able to bring to life these scenes where we see their love, their hearts, and really why Ethan is doing everything he can to save his love. life, that is to say Nora.
Can you tell me about your big action scene?
It was my first action sequence and we shot it over several days. I worked closely with Dave, our stunt coordinator. It was very important that, even though Nora’s life is in danger throughout the film, she was never portrayed as a damsel in distress. She is not at the mercy of a man and is not waiting to be saved. I wanted her to be able to get out of this situation on her own. So we were able to choreograph the scene in a way where I could physically defend myself, attack this person, run and get out of this outcome. It’s been great to be able to do that.
Sofia Carson (Carry-On) confides in his dearest wish for Christmas
What is your best memory from the shoot?
While I loved shooting the action sequences, I also loved the very last scene of the film, the one where Ethan ends up saving the day. The plane lands, it jumps and Nora is in the middle of 15 police cars. They then run towards each other and hug. We filmed this scene at night, in New Orleans, on the tarmac, with planes really landing around us. It was very exciting and grandiose.
The film takes place on Christmas Eve, so what’s your ideal Christmas?
My perfect Christmas would be spending it with my family in my grandmother’s house, all together, united, happy to be in each other’s company and feeling grateful.
Do you prefer a sunny or snowy Christmas?
My family is from Colombia, so I always had a sunny Christmas, but I always wanted to have a snowy Christmas. Last year we spent Thanksgiving in London, and it really felt like Christmas because it was snowing. It was magnificent, I would love to experience that one day.
