The “do you know of the day”. Do you know why Jean Lamour's house was razed?

Jean Lamour is known in particular for his ironwork and the famous gates of Place Stanislas, created with the architect Emmanuel Héré.

The house of the famous ironworker (17th^e century) was located at 32 rue Notre-Dame, in Nancy. A residence with an unpretentious facade but decorated with sumptuous ironwork, evidence of the artist's talent.

Transferred to the Cordeliers convent

In the 1960s, the city's policy was to raze the new town district of Charles III, a popular district at the time, to make it a more modern and commercial district. The inhabitants are displaced. Many then migrated to the new districts built for the occasion: Haut-du-Lièvre, Californie, Placieux, and Chiennerie.

The project to build the San Sebastián shopping center arrived in the 1970s, and the entire neighborhood was razed. Only the Saint-Sébastien church and the synagogue have been preserved.

As well as the house of the famous ironworker which resisted for a time, since it ended up being demolished around 1971.

All that remains is the gate and its leaf, transferred to the Cordeliers convent.
