A warning. American actress Mia Farrow responded this Saturday, December 14 to the possible revocation of the authorization of the polio vaccine in the United States, requested by a lawyer for Robert F. Kennedy Jr, probable future Minister of Health of the administration of Donald Trump.
“No, RFK Jr, we can’t go back to that #polio,” the 79-year-old actress wrote on the social network Threads. The American's publication is accompanied by two black and white photos, one showing splints and the other a hospital room full of patients.
“Don’t let RFK Jr ban the vaccine”
“I had polio when I was 9,” the actress then confided in another publication. “I was taken from my parents and placed in the Los Angeles hospital in the contagious disease department,” she says, assuring that she only saw them “one or two a week through the window of ( his) room”.
“I was terrified. Traumatized. Children died. (…) Don’t let RFK Jr ban the vaccine,” calls Mia Farrow.
According to CNN, a lawyer for Robert F. Kennedy Jr, Aaron Siri, has asked the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to revoke the marketing authorization for the polio vaccine. This request dates from 2022 and would have been issued on behalf of a non-profit association questioning the usefulness of vaccines, the Informed Consent Action Network.
This request is currently under review. “The FDA will consider the concerns expressed in the petition before making a final decision,” a spokesperson told CNN, declining to comment further.
A former lawyer known for his anti-vaccine positions
President-elect of the United States Donald Trump intends to appoint Robert F. Kennedy Jr, nephew of the former President of the United States assassinated in 1963, as Minister of Health, even if this appointment must still be validated by the Senate.
First a candidate in last November's presidential election, Robert F. Kennedy Jr finally rallied behind Donald Trump. A former lawyer, he regularly relays conspiracy theories, notably calling into question the effectiveness of vaccines.
He notably claimed that autism was “due to vaccines” or compared vaccination to a “holocaust”. More recently, he told NBC News that “people should have the choice (to be vaccinated or not, editor's note) and that this choice should be informed by as much information as possible.”
Actress Mia Farrow has for years been involved in polio information campaigns to prevent the spread of this serious infectious disease linked to a virus. In the most severe cases, it can reach the spinal cord and cause paralysis.
