Infanta Sofia awards photography prizes named after her for the first time

Infanta Sofia, 17, has been attending official engagements since she was very young. Always two steps behind her parents, King Felipe and Queen Letizia, and one step behind her older sister, Princess Leonor, the teenager has had time to observe how to behave during military, religious and protocol ceremonies. In recent years, Infanta Sofia has become accustomed to accompanying her older sister on certain outings, when the Princess of Asturias began to undertake her own engagements without their parents.

Infanta Sofia is back in Spain for the coming weeks and will return to her Welsh boarding school on January 6. The teenager studies and lives in Wales, in a boarding school in the UWC international school network. Princess Leonor also studied at this school where she obtained her international baccalaureate. Infanta Sofia should get it at the end of this school year. For this first solo engagement, Infanta Sofia was inspired by the working girl look that Queen Letizia frequently adopts. Infanta Sofia, who did not give a speech and was simply to present the prizes to the winners, wore pants and a white suit.

The awards ceremony took place in the Gallery of Royal Collections, a new museum inaugurated last year by King Felipe VI and Queen Letizia, located within the Royal Palace of Madrid. National Heritage launched this competition in order to promote the palaces, monasteries, museums and natural spaces that it manages. Participants in the competition had to publish their photos taken in one of the national heritage monuments using a specific hashtag.

Infanta Sofia presented the prize in the “Palaces and Monasteries” category to Antonio Farto Casado. Emilie Payn received the award in the “Natural Spaces” category and Teresa Dorado Jiménez received the award in the “Works of ” category. Infanta Sofia was responsible for presenting the prizes to the three winners and a diploma to the top ten in each of the three categories. Between April 18 and September 30, the organizers received more than 250 entries, explains Casa Real, which is considered a real success for a first edition of the competition.
