Appreciating yourself is an exercise that is very difficult and it is not Lara Fabian who would say the opposite. While she can fully love herself and her body today, that wasn't always the case.
Young Lara had a lot of trouble looking at herself in the mirror, and to improve the situation, she went to extremes. Guest on Léa Salamé's show on France
Inter this Thursday, November 28, Lara Fabian continued to confide. “It’s an unfortunate strategy,” she began before adding: “I call him the fireman. There are several types of firefighters: alcohol, cigarettes, drugs… I never used that”.
Lara Fabian opted for “eating disorder”. A situation which is just as difficult for her as for a person who takes drugs, smokes or drinks alcohol. “For years, to be able to find in me a zone of absolute freedom over what I did to myself to finally find myself beautiful,” she said, specifying however: “But it was a terrible strategy, which cost me very, very dearly.” Looking back, Lara Fabian managed to understand why this solution was not the best but, at the time, it seemed good to her.
Lara Fabian: “Sorry for her…”
To achieve love and acceptance, Lara Fabien opted for a radical method. She confides in particular that it sometimes happened that she did not eat “only one apple in a week”. Today, the singer prefers to look back on this period with a smile, rather than lament. “I have so much tenderness for the girl who did that but also pain for her,” she said before continuing: “I say to myself: what made this look so violent towards herself? A question she asked herself for a long time.
Lara Fabian affirms it: she is the only one responsible for this situation.
“It’s no one’s fault,”
she declares. Concerning her relatives and in particular her parents, she specifies that she has not “never lacked love”.
However, she confides that she received a lot and this could therefore have given her the feeling of being “too loved”. So, when she met a man who complimented her, Lara Fabian had a hard time believing it.. If today she loves herself as she is, the artist took a long time to learn to love herself. A testimony that can resonate with many young girls, adolescents and women.
Lara Fabian: “It went up to 47-48 kilos”
This is not the first time that Lara Fabian's eating disorder has been mentioned. A few weeks ago, it was her friend Masayo Hashimoto who revealed that, at the end of the 1990s, the singer did everything to lose weight. “One evening, after a show, she vomited in the toilets of a chic restaurant in New York. Seven years of struggle with anorexia followed”she began. At that time, Lara Fabian hardly ate any more and it was not the main person concerned who would say the opposite. “It went up to 47-48 kilos. I hid, I was only one face with two eyes”, confided the singer.
This difficult period is now a bad memory for Lara Fabian. In 2012, she met Gabriel di Giorgio, her future husband.
According to her friend, it was this relationship that allowed her to slowly get back on track. Today, the singer is at peace with her body. “I have accepted both the faults and the fragilities. Of course, I am not a model, I do not have 1m80 legs”, she confided before continuing: “But as I get older, I feel like I've reaped the best of what I could become. I accept myself as I am, with my imperfections” . Confidences in complete transparency.
