On September 4, 2024, Mélanie Gonzalez (Large families: Life in XXL) became a mother for the ninth time. When she was born, little Calypso suffered from a heart murmur. A situation which greatly worried the elder siblings as explained by the mother in the podcast Parents First of Télé-Loisirs.
After the birth of their ninth child, Calypso, on September 14, 2024, Mélanie Gonzalez and her family observed a certain discretion on social networks. This silence aroused concern among their subscribers. The mother explained the reason in the podcast Parents First of Tele-Leisure : “She had a heart murmur. I have heart problems, I have a malformation of the aorta artery. It's hereditary. Calypso was found to have a small duct that did not close at birth“thus justifying her silence around her baby. These complications led to numerous medical examinations to monitor the little girl's health.
Melanie Gonzalez: “I, a mother of 9 children, was lost… not well”
Another factor of concern for parents: little Calypso lost weight shortly after birth. Mélanie Gonzalez admitted that she had never had to monitor the health of her other children so carefully. The need to monitor Calypso's weight daily has generated great anxiety for the mother of nine children, as she explains on the microphone of Parents First : “Even though this is my 9th baby and I'm used to it, I've never weighed one of my children. So I couldn't help but be worried… I was totally lost.”
Margot and Nino, the eldest of the Gonzalez siblings, worried about their little sister: “They were afraid that everything would stop”
Mélanie and her husband Franck were not the only ones to be worried about the little girl's health. Still marked by the ordeals their parents went through, the two eldest, Nino and Margot, took Calypso's state of health very seriously: “They lived with us through our terminated pregnancies so they were not well. Nino, my 18 year old eldest who is a roofer, sent me messages while he was on the roof to check on his little sister and Margot wrote to me between two classes to find out how the medical appointments were going..” Fortunately, everything is back to normal and little Calypso has recovered and is doing wonderfully today.
