Guest on the set of C to you this Monday, November 25, Olivier Rousteing spoke about his biological mother, who abandoned him when he was born in 1985. An abandonment which made the artistic director of the house of Balmain what he is today.
From his birth under Adopted by a Bordeaux couple, the 39-year-old stylist has never forgotten his biological mother, whom he tried to find for more than two years. An approach that he documented in the documentary Wonderboybroadcast in 2019.
But five years later, the intimate quest for his origins is still pending, and his biological mother has never taken the steps to contact him again or meet him. Despite this refusal, Olivier Rousteing does not hold it against him today.

“I thanked her because I think that abandonment gave me this strength to be who I am today, it’s this resilience that I was talking about just before,” he said on the tray of C to you. An ordeal which was nevertheless difficult for the artistic director of the Balmain house. “I knew the beginning, but I didn’t know the end,” he added, mentioning the emotional difficulty caused by filming the documentary.
“Amazing adoptive parents”
“If she looks at me tonight, I'll say thank you because I wouldn't be here with you tonight, I wouldn't have had the chance or the strength to be who I am today, to have parents adoptive parents who are incredible,” he admitted, visibly very moved.
A message that he also wanted to send to “the France of tomorrow”. “She contributed, by leaving me at the orphanage, to giving me the chance to meet parents with a lot of love,” he finished.
