Against all odds, Lily-Rose Depp will continue to defend The Idol. The sulphurous HBO miniseries did not last long last year after its release, due to lack of audience and positive reviews, but not only that… The creation of Sam Levinson, to whom we owe Euphoriaby Abel Tesfaye, aka The Weeknd, and Reza Fahim, was also quickly highlighted by an article from The Rolling Stone reporting via several sources that the filming had become a veritable field of “pornographic torture” after the departure of the director initially planned for the project, Amy Seimetz.
What followed were scathing criticisms of its release, a shorter than expected broadcast and the cancellation of its sequel by HBO. However, despite this bitter failure, Lily-Rose Depp continues to defend the series. The 25-year-old actress played a young rising star, Jocelyn, who falls into the arms of a manipulative nightclub manager (The Weeknd). “I love it, honestly I love it,” she assured during a recent interview with Vanity Fairbefore recognizing that the team of the series nevertheless expected that the show would not be unanimous.
“I’m sticking to it”
“You make something and you hope people like it. You hope it resonates with them, but we always knew some people weren't going to like it and it would be too much for some people,” she said. “But I’m sticking to it. We made a decision and we did it.” The daughter of Vanessa Paradis and Johnny Depp still met fans of the show. “I love when people come up to me and say, ‘I love The Idol“. And I answer them: “Thank you. You were able to grasp it!” (But) it doesn’t matter if it’s not for everyone.”
The young actress, who will star in the horror film Nosferatu at the start of the 2025 school year, also has excellent memories of this shoot where she claims to have “learned a lot”. “I’ve learned so much about myself and grown so much in my own work,” she said. “I learned to dance and sing and do all these things I had never done before. It was a real period of development for me. That’s why I only have positive thoughts when I think about it, and I’m really proud of that.”
