Life Of Agony singer Mina Caputo has announced she will detransition in 2025, saying she has “cured” her gender dysphoria and will return to her old name, Keith Caputo.
A personal decision after years of reflection
In a 13-minute video posted to Instagram on November 19, Mina Caputo shared the reasons behind this reverse transition. She revealed that she stopped taking hormone therapy six or seven years ago and plans to have surgery in January 2025 to remove her breast implants.
“I haven't taken hormones for six or seven years. I have scheduled an operation to remove my fake breasts and I will soon regain my male identity,” she declared.
She continued: “It took me years, a lot of work on myself and various therapies, but I healed from my gender dysphoria. I am a more harmonious version of myself.”

A critique of early medical treatment for transgender children
Caputo also addressed sensitive topics regarding current medical transition practices, particularly for children. She criticized rapid access to hormonal and surgical treatments, saying these solutions are sometimes offered without a thorough understanding of the consequences: “I am strongly opposed to the medical and surgical transition of children. Hormones have terrible side effects. I don’t understand why more trans people don’t talk about the consequences of these treatments.”
She stressed the importance of therapy to explore identity issues before any medical intervention: “When I first questioned myself, I went through three years of therapy before making any decision. Today, children can access hormonal treatments without psychological monitoring, and it’s revolting.”
A journey strewn with pitfalls
Caputo also shared personal details about his journey, citing a traumatic childhood as a source of his identity turmoil. “I didn't know my mother, she died at the age of 22. I grew up in a chaotic environment, which contributed to a lot of confusion about my identity. Today, I found my authenticity.”
She described her gender dysphoria as a difficult experience, while expressing a feeling of liberation: “It’s one of the most uncomfortable things I’ve ever experienced. But I'm happy it's over. I finally feel free.”
A notable career and an uncertain future
Known as Keith Caputo between 1989 and 2006, the musician began her transition in 2008 and adopted the first name Mina for her 2013 solo album, As Much Truth As One Can Bear. She has since released two albums with Life Of Agony and explored personal themes through her music.
This return to his masculine identity marks a new chapter in his life. Caputo expressed his desire to share more of his experience to raise awareness about complex issues related to gender dysphoria and transitions.
