On September 7, when she had just received her prize at the Venice Film Festival, Nicole Kidman learned of the sudden death of her mother, Janelle Ann Kidman, at the age of 84. A tragic event which reopened another wound, that caused by the loss of his father Antony Kidman, victim of a fatal fall in 2014. During an interview given to the British edition of the magazine GQpublished Monday, November 18, the Oscar-winning actress spoke about her emotional after-effects. And tells how she decides to move forward, despite her anxieties about getting older.

“Life is crazy, it really is a journey”
As her 60th birthday fast approaches, Nicole Kidman admits to being in that phase where everything becomes clearer, where we feel things more, where we connect more to our own humanity, and thus to our mortality. “Life comes along and hits you. Losing parents, raising children, marriage and all the things that make you a more sensitive human being. I am in all these places,” summarizes the mother of 4 children (Bella, 31 years old, Connor, 29 years old, Sunday Rose, 16 years old and Faith Margaret, 13 years old). And added: “Life is crazy. It’s truly a journey.”
The star of Big Little Lies makes no secret of it, these concerns affect him even into the night. “As we get older, it becomes really striking,” says Nicole Kidman with a big sigh to our colleagues at GQ. I find myself waking up at three in the morning crying and choking. And I’m in there, 100%!”
“It’s not a choice,” she says, but all these unfortunate experiences have influenced her career. “Everything is there, everything is there, the good and the bad can influence my work,” explains Nicole Kidman. My emotions have to come out somehow.” His family life was also impacted. The death of her father in 2014, when her children were still very young, particularly marked her. “Death is part of life and, when you start to face it, it’s very heavy,” she admits. When you raise children, you say to yourself: I have to stay here. I want to see all that.” And to conclude: “It’s devastating, beautiful and extraordinary.”
