Georges Souche captures new lights and atmospheres of Salagou and its environment

His 2025 calendar, which has just been released, once again dives into the heart of a Grand Site that the photographer loves.

Here is the traditional and long-awaited Georges Souche calendar again. A concept launched in 2015, which the photographer has since developed by selecting his most beautiful atmospheres captured during his numerous outings in the Heart of Hérault. In the 2025 edition, he focuses on his favorite playground, Lake Salagou and its environment. After Lights of the Heart of Hérault in 2024, Lights of the Grand Site Salagou/Cirque de Mourèze presents original and unique landscapes which enhance an exceptional natural site.

Stick to the news of the Grand Site label

“It’s always a headache to select 12 photos to compose it” recalls Georges Souche who photographed the place from all its angles. This does not prevent him from still being surprised, like by a full moon that he took in his lens in the middle of last week. “I launched this concept 10 years ago, in 2015 on the theme of Salagou, already”.

Since then the lake has always been present, with one exception, in 2018 when the artist chose to illustrate the theme of the Terrasses du Larzac. “With the label obtained this year, the Salagou/Cirque de Mourèze was essential to stick to current events. There are artistic atmospheric photos to show that it is a living place, alongside a little more landscapes. postcards”.

A book tribute to Max Rouquette

The landscape photographer, in love with a territory that he photographs endlessly, is also in love with Occitan culture. Among his projects, the release of a book on Max Rouquette in 2025. “Many events will be organized to mark the 20th anniversary of his death” indicates Georges Souche. It will be inspired by the exhibition “Secret de l’èrba”, which takes its title from one of the founding texts of the work of the writer, with whom the photographer has collaborated through several works. “The book will be a tribute, an anthology which will bring together his significant texts and my photos to celebrate these last three decades.”

This is how the front page, which also illustrates the month of March, represents Nicolas Maffre’s flock of sheep at the water’s edge with the village of Celles in the background. There is also a vine near Octon taken after the harvest for the month of October. Throughout the seasons, Lights of the Grand Site Salagou/Cirque de Mourèze stops at the ruins of Castellas de Malavieille and its basalt peak, at the former royal factory of Villeneuvette, or on the neighboring Lergue river with its blocks of ruffes carried by the floods…

The diversity of a living territory

“I expanded a little to the whole valley, because the territory is not limited to the lake and the dolomitic cirquecontinues Georges Souche, based in the small village of Lacoste. I emphasize the diversity of a living territory with a wine and olive terroir, the presence of livestock. An exceptional geological territory with remarkable biodiversity.”

Definitely a great gift idea as the end-of-year holidays approach.

The calendar, released by Éditions Cardabelle, is available at numerous points of sale, including bookstores and tourist offices in the Cœur d’Hérault. It can also be found, alongside other publications by the photographer, on the site www.georges-souche.com
