“If he keeps his promises, it will be a scary place”: after Donald Trump’s victory, Eva Longoria announces leaving the United States

The actress, originally from Texas, announced that she wanted to leave the United States, she who says she already lives between Mexico and Spain, with her husband. An open Democrat, she gave a speech at the Democratic convention in Chicago before the election.

In a long interview with the American version of Marie Claire of which she is on the cover, Eva Longoria explains that already in 2016 during her first victory questioning her vote, “if I really made a difference.” She then says she made up her mind, “Oh, wait. The best person doesn't win.”

“It will be a scary place.”

The 49-year-old actress opposes Donald Trump and declares that if the Republican candidate “keeps its promises, it will be a scary place”. “What’s shocking isn’t that he won, it’s that a convicted felon who spews so much hatred can hold the highest office.” she explains after the announcement of Trump's victory.

She also sends a message to her compatriots: “I'm privileged, I can escape and go somewhere. Most Americans aren't that lucky. They're going to be stuck in this dystopian country, and my anxiety and sadness are for them.”

A Mexican husband and filming in Europe

Now married to José Bastón, a Mexican television producer with whom she has a 6-year-old son Santiago, she explains that she now spends her life between Mexico and Spain, where she launched a culinary program Searching for Spain, a remake of a show she hosted in Mexico.

She hoped to repair the relationship between the two states. “The people shouting 'Build this wall!' are the same people who go to Taco Tuesday You can't come out of the margarita and denigrate the culture that gave you the taco and the margarita.”

Throughout the presidential campaign, the actress was involved with the Democratic party. She notably spent time with Tim Walz, the vice-presidential candidate, to rally volunteers to the Democratic ticket. She also gave a long speech at the party's convention in Chicago, a few months before the election.
