“For a woman, a car, a fridge…”: Claude Lelouch’s words made this famous journalist’s hair stand on end

Comments which caused a huge reaction… Wednesday November 13, 2024, Claude Lelouch was invited to the set of L’heure des pros, on CNews. In full promotion of his new film, the famous director spoke about his vision of the couple. A few days earlier, in an interview given to La Tribune Dimanche, he had in fact estimated thatwe can change women when we find something better.

Faced with Pascal Praud, the husband of the novelist Valérie Perrin declared: “When I say that we are faithful until we find something better, it’s true whether it’s for a car, a woman, a fridge, anything…”before adding: Married women should thank mistresses. Very often, when we go somewhere else, we are happy to come home“.

Claude Lelouch: “Our eyes can't stop wandering”

Unable to let such remarks pass, Pascal Praud blurted out: “We are going to have big problems. I have a young woman in my headset. Already the comparison of women and fridges, I have had the right to a first remark…”. A bit annoyed, Claude Lelouch then replied: “You don’t understand. We are constantly improving the world (…). But it's true that beauty has absolutely incredible virtues and our eyes can't help but wander around and see things. You have to live with all that.”.

On X (formerly Twitter), Internet users were particularly shocked by these comments. Is this supposed to be funny? These old artists are pitiful ;
“A man without elegance, a cad… who apart from his fame would not have had the means to achieve his ambitions towards women!” ; “At his age, he still hasn't understood anything about being human. When we're in a relationship and we look elsewhere, it's because we're not satisfied with our life together, that the other no longer suits us, so we are never happy to return to our relationship.”we can read.

Anne Nivat: “I would have reframed of course”

Thursday November 14, 2024,
Anne Nivat
was invited to react to the director's comments on the set of Mag's Buzz TV. “He says what he thinks. Now, in fact, we live in a society where so few people can say what they think without filter that everything becomes very politically correct. If I had been on set with Claude Lelouch, I would have done the same thing, I would have reframed of course I would probably have said… I don't know what I would have said, in any case. it was Claude Lelouch himself who decided to say thatshe indicated.

While she disagrees with him, the journalist added: “All the comments that can put a woman back in a box and taking away his freedom and his power bothers me deeply. So obviously the wife box, the master box, would annoy me. But in general, when a man starts saying a lot of good things about his wife and then says a 'but' or an 'and', and moves on, you have to be very careful.”.
