“Married women should thank mistresses”: Claude Lelouch shamelessly facing a hilarious Pascal Praud

At 87, Claude Lelouch unveils his 51st film, called
Eventually. On the occasion of the promotion of this new feature film, the filmmaker was present on the set of Pascal Praud on CNews, November 13, 2024. If he talks about his career, the director will then return to a subject that he particularly likes : women.

Indeed, Pascal Praud will question him following statements which caused debate: “The other day you said, which surprised me, 'We can change women when we find something better'. But what’s better than a woman you love?”the journalist asks him.

Claude Lelouch discusses his vision of love and infidelity

To which Claude Lelouch then evokes infidelity: “When I say that we are faithful until we find something better, it’s true whether it’s for a car, a woman, a fridge, anything…”, replied the filmmaker, to the laughter of the journalists.

“It pulls us up, it forces us to be better and better, it forces us to improve. You can love a woman all your life if you break records every day, if you impress her every day. What is love? We go through admiration. Me, today, I am with Valérie Perrin, I am full of admiration for this woman and this admiration is love”.

Words that spark debate

Later in the show, Pascal Praud brings it up again: “When, in a romantic relationship, to sometimes justify infidelity, you say, 'I'm a life reporter and I went elsewhere to see what's going on.' Saying that to your wife in the evening is not easy…”.

But Claude Lelouch persists and signs: “You know, married women should thank mistresses because there are impressive returns. Very often, when we go elsewhere,
we are happy to come home”,
he replied. “We are constantly improving the world (…). But it's true that beauty has absolutely incredible virtues and our eyes can't help but wander around and see things. You have to live with all that.”
