Oops, Denzel Washington said too much. For several weeks, the American actor has been on television sets and interviews to properly promote Gladiator II by Ridley Scott. He was the guest of the Today Show Australia this week, a show during which he discussed his participation in the epic worn by Paul Mescal and Pedro Pascal. The interview was also an opportunity to approach his future in the film industry. For the 69-year-old actor, retirement is not far away. Before completely saying goodbye to the stage and the big screen, Denzel Washington still has a few films that he hopes to see come to fruition. While most are promised to be released soon, one of them is particularly surprising. He has just confirmed the development of a Black Panther 3 as much as creating a tailor-made role. He explains: “I played Othello at 22, I'm going to play Othello at 70. Afterwards, I will play Hannibal. After that, I chat with Steve McQueen (the British director, editor's note) about a film. After that, Ryan Coogler is writing a role for me in the next Black Panther.
Throughout this conversation, Denzel Washington confirms what was until now just a rumor in the corridor. Marvel does indeed intend to offer a third installment to the Wakanda saga. He adds that the screenwriter and director of the previous two films is still at the helm of the project. This is a fairly rare occurrence within the Marvel stable, few filmmakers have been given the opportunity to follow a character or world from start to finish. The case Black Panther is still quite special, the future of the brand was more than uncertain after the disappearance of Chadwick Boseman in August 2020. After the announcement of his death, Coogler was forced to review his scenario of A to Z to pay tribute to the interpreter of T-Challa and open a new chapter in the history of Wakanda. It was thought that the animated series Eyes of Wakanda was the only production on the program for the next few years.

New era for Wakanda
In its promotional campaign as well as through its story, Black Panther : Wakanda Forever evolved around the grief that struck the cast and the characters. If it was a question of recording a timid handover with the character Letitia Wright, a third film was not certain to see the light of day. Registration “Black Panther will return” although having concluded the new adventures of Shuri, Ramonda, Okoye and Nakia, nothing ensured that it was through a solo film that this return would take place. The new vigilante could have been just one of the heroes invited to face Doctor Doom in the next two Avengers.
Kevin Feige and his teams nevertheless seem to quite believe Coogler and the mythology Black Panther to continue the journey. The screenwriter will nevertheless have to find how to truly compose without the figure of T'Challa, whose shadow still hangs over Wakanda. Denzel Washington did not expand on the subject, but his presence is already exciting. Note that Black Panther 3 has not yet been made official by Marvel Studios and that the project may never come to fruition. After Avengers 5 et 6 remains very mysterious, the studio has not mentioned what the future holds for its license after the confrontation with Doctor Doom.
