In Honfleur, the hall of the Tour des Marronniers transformed by young people from the neighborhood

While waiting for renovation which will end in March 2026 according to the website of the social landlord, the Tour des Marronniers, in Honfleur, is getting a makeover. In his hall, two large frescoes appeared. The first represents the Bridge, while the second is a little more vague. A beach, two building towers and the Eiffel Tower in the middle of fields full of flowers: the young people of the neighborhood have left give free rein to their imagination.

A socially useful activity

“It’s our choice to let them paint what they want,” confides Waël Eid, a professional painter based in , who supervises the young people. I am here for the to accompanybecause I have already carried out this type of participatory project. This is not a first, but I really like this ambiance and these projects. »

Six young people from the neighborhood, aged between 13 and 17, got involved during the school holidays from Monday October 28 to Thursday October 31 for four hours per day. All are followed by “Le 14”, a departmental public establishment specializing in prevention for young people in . “The objective is to create of the link between them and to combine that with a socially useful activity, specify Bertrand and Julia, educators present on the site with budding artists. It’s also super rewarding for them. We organized a site handover on Thursday after their sixteen hours of work and they will be rewarded for their investment. »

The latter will receive a small gratification. The Inolya company, Calvados’ leading social landlord, covered this award as well as the total cost of this project.

“Our goal is to promote living together as well as social ties in collaboration with “Le 14” for young people who are in reintegration, explains Laëtitia Beck, urban social development manager at Inolya. I think it makes sense to have them work in the lobby of a building they know. »

New initiatives planned

The inhabitants of the Chestnut Towerthey do not hide their pleasure in seeing this work on a daily basis. So much so that the neighbors of the other buildings are already asking that a similar action for it to be implemented in theirs.

“We are therefore considering repeating the operation,” continues Laëtitia Beck. But it will probably be next yearbecause we are entering the winter period. »

After the renovation, this summer, of the painting of a staircase, then the success encountered by the fresco, other identical initiatives should therefore see the light of day, but the formula should not change. “When it is young people from the neighborhood who carry out this type of work, we know from experience that it will be respected. »
