Camille Lou, in “Cat’s Eyes”: “It’s a dream, this character”

You are too young to be from the Cat's Eyes generation, what did you know about the series?

“With the girls [Constance Labbé et Claire Romain, ses partenaires]we are too young, we didn't know. Constance was a fan of Nicky Larson so she knew the Tsukasa universe but I have no manga culture at all. I was rather Totally Spies ! Which is inspired by Cat’s Eyes Besides. Before filming, I looked through the manga and watched a bit of the anime, but that was just to get an idea of what Cat’s Eyes in the collective unconscious, in people's heads. Anyway, we weren't going to copy the cartoon… we can't run in stilettos! (laughs). The most important thing was to keep the cartoon, manga, lively… and graphic side a little.

It’s a physically demanding role, how did it go?

“It’s very different from what I had already done (…) I was still filming Anthracite for Netflix when I found out I got the role. I got back into sport, because I wasn't shooting every day and I had the time. It was good because I had to follow it up with four months of intense preparation. I went all out, doing 5 or 6 sports sessions a week. I had to be “physical” for this role.”

When it comes to stunts, do you do a lot of things yourself?

“Yes, thanks to this physical preparation, I was not at risk of hurting myself. The little stunts, the hangs, the rappels, the kicks, the falls… That's me. But everything that is very technical, the gymnastic tricks, the somersaults… I am doubled. There are also things that I could have done but were not allowed to do for insurance reasons, particularly at the start of filming… Like climbing the edge of the Eiffel Tower. I would have loved it! »

The scenes in the Eiffel Tower in fact, it's the first episode and the first days of filming… A great introduction!

“We started with that, it was really a big piece, we only shot at night and we were fired at 7 a.m. because it opened at 8 a.m. to the public. We had five nights, when we needed ten, so we had two teams filming at the same time! It was huge. We divided the work with Chloé Henry [sa doublure cascade]she climbed a lot of stairs! (laughs) »

You are Tam, the cornerstone of adventure. It's a great playground for an actress…

“When I read the script, I was like, ''I've never done that, I want to do it!''. It's a dream, this character. She is badassdetermined, a little harsh, but we understand her little by little. I liked the fact that she evolved and that the relationship of the three sisters evolved too.

There also needed to be alchemy between the three sisters, the three actresses… How did it go?

“I knew Constance [Labbé] but not at all Claire [Romain]. The first time the three of us saw each other was with Tsukasa Hojo [le créateur de Cat’s Eyes]so that puts a lot of pressure. But it was super natural, as if we had always known each other. We each had a bit of a place for our characters, and we don't know if it's because they had already rubbed off on us. I had the impression that this bond was already being created outside of filming.”

At that point, Tsukasa could have said he didn't want you for his characters?

“Yes, he had a say. He was very present on the project, with the production, TF1… On the casting side, for example, he validated the fact that all three of us were not brunettes. For him, it was anecdotal, he said ''do what you want, feel free'', he liked us to take liberties.”

Was the fact that Alexandre Laurent was directing reassuring?

“Alexandre is a true creator, he is invested in writing the characters, he is open to debate… Sometimes, there were moments of stress, and he would say to me ''Trust me'' and I was going there.”

It's a highly anticipated series, a big budget, with an international dimension with Prime Video… were you under pressure?

“It was very stressful. There were doubts, questions… Moments when we said to ourselves ''Are we going to get there?''… And then everyone was fully engaged, we gave everything. There is the financial investment, but there is also all the mental, psychological investment, the commitment of the body… We leave little points of life there! »

Is a season 2 planned?

“It will depend on the reception, the success… It’s not impossible. I'm already super proud to have worn this character for a season. If there is a second season, it will be great. If there isn't one, it doesn't matter. The important thing is that people like this one.”
