Sylvie Vartan: “Terrible for someone…”, her painful confessions about her son David Hallyday

That was over 40 years ago! In 1961, Sylvie Vartan began her career in and has since released 40 studio albums and recorded 1,500 songs in ten languages. Four years later, the singer married Johnny Hallyday, whose concerts she opened for in 1962.
Together, the two stars had a son, Davidborn August 14, 1966. Publicized from a very young age, he followed in the footsteps of his famous parents by becoming a singer.

According to Sylvie Vartan, everything has not always been simple for her son. Thursday November 7, 2024, it was then that she agreed to answer questions from readers of Le Parisien that she declared:
“The fact that David had this talent, I recognized it as soon as he was born. He lived with us, in an artistic environment, it only increased his desire, he was like a blotter. It wasn't always easy for him. Indeed, David Hallyday is the son of immense music stars.

Sylvie Vartan: “He has proven many times that he is a great composer”

Proud of her son's career, who has won numerous gold records over the years, the singer said: “When you are the child of artists, people think you're hypedbut the piston only works for a while”before adding: “He has proven many times that he is a great composer, a great melodist, that he has great emotion. He has learned to live this notoriety of being the son of… It's terrible for someone be minimized somewhere…”.

During this interview, Sylvie Vartan also revealed that she was upset that her son was covering Johnny Hallyday's hits on stage today. “It also touches him in an extraordinary way, and legitimately, he is his father. These songs are anchored in his heart, even without learning them”she said before adding: He knew how to write for Johnny wonderfully because he knows him, these are his emotions too. It's great that he's doing this. It's also a way of expressing everything he has in his heart, it's a very personal record, very strong and very moving for me too.”.

David Hallyday: “It stuck with me”

Although being the son of well-known personalities can be difficult, David Hallyday has nevertheless chose the same stage name as his father. Wednesday May 15, 2024, on the Clique set, on Canal+, he indicated: “In fact, Hallyday is a stage name. I was called David Hallyday from the time I was born, so it's always been like that. In fact, it's a stage name. In our family, everyone those who perform on stage…”.

Finally, David Hallyday added: “It turns out that Laura has done theater, she does cinema… I have the impression that it’s a name exclusively reserved for those who are on stage musically. It's a bit strange, but it was Lee Hallyday who introduced this to my father and so he introduced this to me because the press called me David Hallyday and it stuck with me.”.
